Technology will monitor procedures to spot delays and bottlenecks, helping hospitals to increase number of surgeries.

The NHS will deploy artificial intelligence (AI) across more than 100 operating theatres in London as part of its largest test of the technology.

The AI will use cameras to follow patients’ progress through surgery and to help identify bottlenecks, delays and gaps in treatment that prevent hospitals from making full use of operating theatres.

It can predict the length of a procedure six weeks ahead, identify overbooked and underused lists, and suggest changes to keep each day on schedule, the NHS said.
